Ian Cassells has been an associated name with the horse eventing community since 2011 starting at junior to young rider and now competing at a senior level. Ian Graduated from college with a Hons Degree in Agricultural science 2017.
Throughout his 5 years in college, Ian was Captain and president of the UCD equestrian club and a member of Irish Universities Riding Clubs Association (IURCA) representing Europe and America. Throughout his time within the association, Ian has won the world finals twice individually and has also been a member of the Irish team who have won this accolade twice.Well decorated and highly successful Ian, has also been awarded the George Mernagh bursary.

An annual bursary set up in memory of the late George Mernagh who had a lifelong interest in equestrian sports and was devoted to developing these at Tattersalls in Ireland. The bursary offers support to successful applicants and aims to help them in such aspects as course designer/builder to competitor to instructor, to develop or further establish their career in the eventing industry.

Ian was awarded silver at and individual level at the world Championships where he also won another silver as part of the Irish team.Over the past 3 years Ian has concentrated on building his own business and expanding his facilities in Newcastle, Co Dublin.

He has recently just installed a state of the art 35x55 Sand arena and a turn out lunging ring. Currently Ian has been focused on the development of young event horses, bringing them along from breaking them to producing them to compete at 5 star level in Ireland. Teaching has become another big part of Ian’s focus in recent years where he seeks to train young aspiring event riders in his local area and around Ireland.

In the year 2020, Ian was the leading event rider in the Ireland with the most amount of wins. Also in the year 2020 Ian was awarded the 2 star long at the Ballendenisk International Event.
